1. Jaka Someh. Independent Youth

In Cikaret Village, under the foot of Mount Halimun. It was the day before dawn. The cold air was so piercing to the bone marrow. The sky still looks dark, but Jaka Someh is already busy with his activities of cutting firewood. He is still very young, ranging from 13 or 14 years old, but his body already looks stocky and muscular.

When he was 10 years old, Jaka Someh was already an orphan. His mother died of a chronic illness. While his father died when Jaka Someh was seven years old. He died horribly after being beaten by Juragan Permana's men.

Juragan Permana is a loan shark from the village of Rawa Balong, a village at the foot of Mount Halimun.

Jaka Someh's father is an ustadz who is quite respected by the community. An ustadz who is firm, authoritative, and has a generous heart. Often lectures from one village to another.

That day, when he returned from giving a lecture from the village of Rawa Balong, he was confronted by a number of the skipper of Permana who was not happy with the content of his lecture. He was beaten and killed not far from his hut. Even Jaka Someh, who was 7 years old at that time, witnessed the incident. He could not do anything but just cry over the body of his father who had died a martyr. His heart was very sad and angry.

Jaka Someh's mother was shocked to see her husband died. After that she became sickly until she died a few years later. The trauma of his father's death left quite an impression on Jaka Someh's heart.

Moreover, after the incident, his mother often advised Jaka Someh to always be careful in what he said, so as not to offend or hurt other people's feelings. Jaka Someh's mother always advised Jaka Someh to always maintain manners, be polite, be patient, give in a lot, and always be humble. His mother's advice was enough to make an impression on his heart and even formed a character in him.

Now, Jaka Someh is 13 years old. Lives in a hut left by his late parents. A very simple hut, made of old bamboo booths. Inside there are only bamboo bales and a fireplace made of dried clay.

Bathed in the light of torches, Jaka Someh was so engrossed in his work, chopping pieces of dry wood with a machete. Cut some whole logs into small pieces so they can be used as firewood. Sweat was seen dripping down his body.

Jaka Someh is indeed a hard worker who is full of tenacity. Laziness is the enemy. He hates having to idle time in his life. In principle nothing should be in vain. As long as he is loose and healthy, he will do whatever is useful for himself or others.

Jaka Someh is a lighthearted person.

Don't hesitate to help others. It doesn't matter even if the person doesn't appreciate it. His heart was quite satisfied when he saw that other people had been freed from the troubles that were being experienced.

Jaka Someh suddenly remembered one of his late father's messages.

At that time, Mr. Sabarudin once said to him

"Jaka Someh, my son is the most handsome in the world...don't be afraid to be tired, you never feel a loss when you do good, as long as it's good and useful. Just do it for real. Work with a sincere heart with pleasure. Never expect praise from others. The important thing is that God bless you…”

At that time, Jaka Someh was probably only about 6 years old, but his father had often given advice. Once upon a time he asked his father

“Father… what if we have worked hard but it turns out that our goals and aspirations are not achieved… will the work be in vain…?”

His father smiled at Jaka Someh's question, then hugged him and said

"Jaka Someh...my smart son...you have to remember this father's message...nothing is wasted in good deeds...no matter how small the work you do, God willing, there will be an impact...there will be benefits...Just do it until it's finished...if you can't finish it when That… yes, it will be continued at another time… In time, God willing, you will reach the destination you want… the important thing is that you are patient, keep trying and praying, never give up… don't be afraid to be tired… Tired is actually a blessing… try to think...if we are tired...God willing, our sleep will also be good... the food we eat will taste more delicious… even though the food is only perfunctory…. duh if only you knew, my son… being able to sleep well and eat well is a gift, a pleasure……after enough rest…our body will also return to being fresh… that is the blessing of life… one goodness will produce another goodness… life will be full of happiness… the important thing is that we must always be grateful for the blessings that have been bestowed by the Almighty…”.

Jaka Someh nodded his head. Either understand or not with his father's pituh.

His mother was ironing with a charcoal iron at that time, which is an iron heated by coals of charcoal. His mother said to Jaka someh

"Yes, it's true what your father said... let's see... what am I doing now...?"

Although surprised his mother asked like that, Jaka Someh still tried to answer

"Now mom is ironing clothes...so why mom...?"

His mother smiled at her son's answer, she again asked her only child

"Take a look... see... the clothes and pants that I'm going to iron, are there a lot or not...?"

“There are so many mothers… they pile up like mountains…”.

His mother smiled at her son's answer

"That's right, my son... Jaka Someh... take a look... I am ironing these clothes one by one... if I iron one shirt... do you think the pile of clothes will look less...?"

Jaka Someh was a little hesitant to answer, worried that the answer would be wrong

"How about it, mother, in my opinion... hmm... if you only iron one shirt... the pile still doesn't seem to be decreasing, let alone your iron pile... piled up like that..."

His mother laughed happily at her son's answer

"That's right, my son… if you only iron one shirt… the pile doesn't seem to be decreasing… as if it hasn't changed… even though it's not really like that… by ironing just one shirt, mom has reduced the pile of clothes, even if it's only a little… if you continue…continue, ironing one more shirt and ironing again… one by one… for sure… over time the pile of clothes will disappear… because your mother has ironed everything… the important thing is to be patient… if you work, don't do it halfway… do it continue with patience until the desired goals and objectives are realized… how do you understand…?”.

Jaka Someh nodded his head, as if he understood the meaning of his mother's words at that time.

The red sky has now appeared in the eastern sky, a sign that dawn is about to rise. The sound of a rooster's crowing began to be heard shouting at each other, interrupting Jaka's thoughts when he reminisced with his parents. Jaka Someh also carried the firewood that he had just cut into a hut. He prepares to make a fire to boil water.

While cooking, he took the time to go to the Cikaniki river which is not far from his hut. The sound of the water was so gurgling. Jaka Someh took a bath and performed ablution with the water. The water still looks so clear and fresh without being exposed to the slightest pollution. Even so clear, you can see some fish are playing chasing each other with their friends. Jaka Someh smiled at the fish. It was one of the free entertainment that could help him calm the soul.

Jaka Someh feels dependent on the existence of the Cikaniki river. Bathing, drinking, washing clothes and all the furniture are usually done in the river. As for the defecation business, Jaka Someh prefers a special area in the forest which is a bit far from his hut. He feels pity that the river will be polluted by organic waste. Maybe because at that time there was no toilet, so he had to defecate around the trees in the forest.

After wearing his pangsi clothes which were no longer clear in color, Jaka Someh prayed in his hut. The distance from the mosque is quite far, so he always prays alone in his old hut. Since childhood, Jaka Someh has received a good religious education from his late father.

After praying, Jaka Someh immediately returned to his kitchen to lift the container of water that seemed to be boiling. He placed the container on a wooden bench next to the fireplace. He scooped up the water with a dipper made of dried coconut shells. Making his favorite bitter coffee drink. After that, he burned some tubers for his breakfast menu. Not long after, there was a distinctive smell of burnt ripe tubers. Arousing his appetite which had been turbulent for a long time. Jaka Someh muttered while his left hand scratched his ass

"Wow...the smell is really tempting...it makes me even more hungry...it's better if this tuber is eaten while drinking bitter coffee..."

After the food was ready, Jaka Someh immediately devoured it, while occasionally sipping bitter coffee, his favorite drink. His face became happy to enjoy the delicious food. After being full with breakfast, Jaka someh expressed his gratitude.

"Alhamdulillah, thankfull.. oh my god... I feel full... it's delicious... thank God I can eat delicious food like this..."

After finishing breakfast, Jaka Someh started getting ready to go to the fields behind Mount Halimun. After slinging a machete at his waist, he carried a drinking container made of bamboo. Don't miss his favorite bamboo flute. After everything was ready, Jaka Someh came out of his hut, while his lips were muttering, praying for goodness to the Almighty

"Bismillahi Tawakaltu Allahu La haula wala quwata illa Billahi... O my Lord, may you give me safety and blessings..."

After that he walked leisurely with a beaming face, leaving his beloved hut which was worn out with age.

Farming is a routine activity that Jaka Someh usually does in his daily life. Since childhood he has been accustomed to the world of agriculture. His father had taught him the science of farming. Now Jaka Someh has grown into a reliable and skilled farmer. His love for the world of agriculture seemed to have penetrated deep into his heart. Although most people consider the farming profession as low class, Jaka Someh actually feels proud of his profession. He imagined what would happen if there were no farmers in the world, well, it would definitely be troublesome because people would find it difficult to get food and clothing. If he becomes a farmer, at least he will be able to live his life independently, without relying much on other people for his life. He remembers his father's advice, when he first received agricultural science lessons

"Jaka Someh, my good son...God is Most Blessing...created everything without being in vain...everything that Allah created...everything must have its own function and benefit...it's just that often we don't know much about it... We do this farming to seek God's bounty...hope that with the efforts we are doing, Allah will be pleased and give us sustenance in the form of food that is useful as a livelihood... we are one of God's creatures, as strong or as great as anything, still needs something to sustain life...we still need food, drink, clean air, land to live in and others for our lives. In contrast to Allah, who is perfect, does not have the slightest weakness, Allah does not need anything to live, because He is the Living Essence... He is the source of all things, everything comes into existence because of His Will. In fact, it is Allah who gives everything that is needed by his creatures, Allah who has created the sky, earth, land, air, sunlight and others, all of that is a manifestation of the love of the Lord of the worlds for all of us, we just have to manage it just to get something we need or want, Allahu shomad... that's why it's called God, because everything depends on Him, including us, depend on God's goodness. seeking His pleasure and bounty..." .

Jaka Someh nodded his head when he heard his father's lecture at that time.

Without realizing it now he has become a reliable and skilled farmer. Even because the results are always excessive, Jaka Someh often donates some of his agricultural produce to villagers in need.
